India has slammed the United Nations Commission on Human Rights’ (UNCHR) report on Kashmir and described it as part of the motivated campaign against India’s sovereignty and integrity, reports Hindu Businessline.

Urging action by both India and Pakistan, the office of UN High Commissioner for Human Rights had last year released its first ever report on Kashmir. This year, an update to the earlier report was released in which it has been claimed that ‘neither India nor Pakistan have taken any concrete steps to address the numerous concerns raised’.

The Ministry of External Affairs, in its response to the report, said it had extended legitimacy to cross-border terrorism emanating from Pakistan.

“It is a matter of deep concern that this update seems to accord a legitimacy to terrorism that is in complete variance with UN Security Council positions,” MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar was quoted in the report as saying.

He described the report as part of the continued “motivated narrative” against Indian sovereignty and integrity.

Kumar also said the updated report reflected a prejudiced mindset which chose to ignore the comprehensive socio-economic developmental efforts undertaken by the government in the face of terrorist challenges.
