Union Cabinet Approves Higher Power Allocation To Jharkhand And Telangana From Ongoing NTPC Projects

The union cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday (6 February) approved a Ministry of Power proposal to allocate 85 per cent of electricity generated from central power projects in Telangana and Jharkhand to the respective states, an office release said.
The cabinet gave its nod to the power ministry’s proposal of allocating 85 per cent power generated from National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Limited’s 4,000 Megawatt (MW) Telangana Super Thermal Power Project (TSTPP) to government of Telangana.
It also approved allocating 85 per cent power from the 4,000 MW expansion project of Patrau Super Thermal Power Station (PSTPS) of Patrau Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited - a subsidiary of NTPC - to the Jharkhand government.
TSTPP plant will come at Ramagundam in Peddapalli district of Telangana. It will be set up in two phases with the first phase comprising of two units of 800 MW each while three units of 800 MW each will come in second phase.
The PSTPS project will also be set up in two phases at Patrau in Ramgarh district of Jharkhand. It will comprise three units of 800 MW each in first phase while two 800 MW units will be installed in the second phase.
“Higher allocation of Power to the State of Telangana from TSTPP will ensure that the Central Government has taken the necessary measures as enumerated in the thirteenth schedule of the Andhra Pradesh reorganisation act, for the progress and sustainable development of the successor States,” the statement said while adding that higher allocation to Jharkhand will help in improving the scenario of the state.
