Union Govt Issues License To Five More Companies To Produce Liposomal Amphotericin B Used To Treat Black Fungus

The Union Government has given licenses to five more companies to produce Liposomal Amphotericin B injections as per a report in All India Radio.

Liposomal Amphotericin B is used in the treatment of Mucormycosis. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had directed officials to procure the drug from anywhere it is available in the world.

Indian missions across the world have been committed to obtaining the supplies of this drug.

Gilead Sciences, a research-based biopharmaceutical company in the USA, is facilitating the supply of AmBisome to India through Mylan.

Over 1,21,000 vials have so far reached India. Another 85,000 vials are on the way. The company is likely to supply one million doses of AmBisome to India through Mylan, a company owned by Pfizer.

Maharashtra-based Genetic Life Sciences has also begun manufacturing Amphotericin B Emulsion injections; injections are priced at Rs 1,200 each, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari tweeted.

India has reported 11,717 cases of Mucormycosis until 26 May, with Gujarat, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh registering the highest number of cases.
