Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya called for a meeting of the health ministers of several states and union territories (UTs) to review the situation regarding the Covid-19 vaccination program.

With an aim of ramping up the coverage of the Covid vaccines, Mandaviya targets enhancing the total coverage and thereby ensure that the entire adult population receives at least a single dose of the vaccine by December.

The states and the UTs have been told to increase the speed of their vaccination drive and particularly focus on second doses.

The states and the UTs have a large stock of vaccines available with them but still over 10 crore people have their second doses overdue currently, Times of India reports.

The official data from the Union Health Ministry reveals that more than 12.37 crore of unutlised Covid vaccine doses are currently available with the states and the UTs.

The central government had planned to vaccinate the entire eligible population by the end of 2021.

The country even hit the milestone of the 100 crore vaccination mark on 21st October and the government now aims to further accelerate the vaccination program in the coming months.
