Union Home Minister Amit Shah has tested positive for novel coronavirus (Sars-CoV-2) and has been hospitalised, he tweeted on Sunday (2 August).
The former Bharatiya Janata Party president himself broke the news on Twitter and wrote, "On getting the initial symptoms of corona, I got the test done and the report came back positive. My health is fine, but I am being Shadmitted to the hospital on the advice of doctors."h
Shah also urged to those who had recently come in contact with him to isolate themselves and get tested for COVID-19.
Given the highly busy schedule he carries, the list goes long for those who will need to worry for their health.
Shah becomes the first senior minister from the Government of India to have contracted the highly transmissible virus.
However, several other leaders have tested positive for the disease in past including Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan and BJP leader Jyotiraditya Scindia.
Earlier today, Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister Kamal Rani Varun passed away due to coronavirus at a Lucknow hospital.
