After meeting with Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi for the second time in three days, briefing the press, President of the United States (US) Donald Trump said on Tuesday (24 September) that the two countries will soon be signing a trade deal, reports Economic Times.
In response to a reporter's query on expectations of a trade deal between the two nations, President Trump said, "We are doing very well. I think very soon we will have a trade deal."
The bilateral meeting between the leaders of the world's largest and oldest democracies took place on the sidelines of the 74th United Nations General Assembly session where President Trump gave his speech yesterday, and PM Modi will be delivering his speech on 27 September.
It had been reported on Monday that India's Minister for Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal had also flown to the US on Monday to give the finishing touches to a possible trade deal with his counterparts from the US.
The trade talks gained much impetus after PM Modi and President Trump both met each other during the G-20 Summit in Tokyo, Japan a few months ago and resolved to take up the talks with renewed attempt.
