The 23-year-old victim of rape from Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh succumbed to her burn injuries on Friday (6 December) at Delhi's Safdurjung Hospital after having been set ablaze by five men, reports Asian News International (ANI).
The victim had suffered 90 per cent body burns after the five accused, namely, Shibham, Shivam, Harishankar, Umesh and Ram Kishore attacked her and set her on fire by pouring kerosene over her.
Following the shocking incident, the victim had been airlifted to Delhi for treatment. However, at 11.40 pm on Friday, she suffered a cardiac arrest. The doctors at the hospital tried to resuscitate her but she could not survive.
It should be noted that the victim, at the time of the attack was on her way to catch an early morning train to Rae Bareli for a court hearing in the rape case she had filed in March of this year.
According to reports, the Unnao rape victim, was set ablaze by five men who had raped her in march and were out on bail.
The rape victim ran for a kilometer with 90 per cent burns, in intense pain, crying for help and assistance.
As per reports, after the incident with burn injuries, she took a bystander's mobile phone and called the emergency help number and police herself.
