As part of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s zero tolerance approach to corruption, the Uttar Pradehs government has forced 201 officials and employees facing corruption cases against them to take compulsory retirement, reports The Times of India.
Another 417 individuals are facing special scrutiny and may be given ‘exemplary punishment’.
The compulsory retirement decision was taken based on a report identifying those government employees who were older than 50 and had corruption cases pending against them. The committee which had prepared the report was constituted by Adityanath soon after he took over at the helm of the state government.
The highest number of officials who have been forced to retire belong to the home department, where 51 individuals have been let go. Another 36 are from revenue, while eight are from basic education.
Now, the state government plans to expand its strict approach to even those employees below 50 years of age, with a possibility of those with corruption cases against them in this category having their promotions stopped.
