Uttar Pradesh (UP) Chief Minister (CM) Yogi Adityanath on Sunday (5 July) took part in and launched open massive Van Mahotsav event under which 25 crore saplings will be planted across the State, reports The Economic Times.

At the event's commencement, CM Adityanath shared that as many as 5.3 crore saplings have already been planted in the State and the number is further increasing.

CM Adityanath also shared that in last year's edition of Van Mahotsav, a target to plant a total of 22 crore saplings was set. Following the planting of those saplings, each of those saplings was geo-tagged to ensure their safety.

He also told that the government's forest department had grown whopping 35 crore saplings, either in its own nursery or by motivating the farmers. Those saplings have also been linked to the plantation being carried out under Van Mahotsav.

At the occasion, pressing on the importance of rivers Ganga and Yamuna, CM Adityanath also underscored that to maintain the uninterrupted flow of the two rivers, trees will have to be planted on the banks of the rivers.
