Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister (CM) Yogi Adityanath, while launching the 29.7 km-long Aqua Line on Friday (25 January) has said that his government has also approved the second branch of the metro corridor which will link Noida and Greater Noida Extensions, the Times of India reports.

“I am happy to announce that with the opening of this corridor (Aqua Line), our government has decided to give approval to the Noida-Greater Noida Extension link to Knowledge Park. With this, around 2 lakh residents of Greater Noida (West) will be benefited directly, and these projects will help ensure proper connectivity to the area. It is our duty to provide all facilities to residents and ensure a good environment for them,” he said.

CM Yogi said that the project would be built in two phases and aims to extend “smart-city like services” to the people. Both, authorities of Noida and Greater Noida will develop the Aqua Line Extension. According to Greater Noida Authority officials, the project will cost Rs 2,602 crore, of which Rs 1,521 crore will be spent in developing the first five stations between Sector 71 and Greater Noida Sector 2.

Further, the funds from centre and state governments, as well as various loans, will finance the extension project. In a board meeting on 4 December, Greater Noida approved its share of Rs 151 crore for the first phase of the extension. While Greater Noida will be pumping a total of Rs 250 crore for the complete project, Noida will be funding Rs 130 crore.

There is no deadline fixed for the project as officials believe the progress will depend on respective authorities allotting funds. CM Yogi also said that the Jewar Airport project is progressing and will be completed on time.
