Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that every MBBS doctor who graduates from government medical colleges in the state will have to work in villages for two years and they will have to sign bonds in this regard.

The doctors completing post-graduation - MD and MS - will have to work in rural areas for a year, he said while addressing a function to mark the first anniversary of Ayushman Bharat Diwas here.

He even said that no one would force the government for the internship.

He said that 46.86 lakh golden cards were made under the Prime Minister Jan Arogya Yojana in Uttar Pradesh.

It was recently reported that Maharashtra had proposed to reserve 10 per cent of MBBS and 20 per cent of medical post-graduation (PG) medical seats for in-service doctors who are willing to work in interior, rural areas for five and seven years respectively.

This proposal too was aimed at addressing the shortage of doctors in rural areas.
