The Uttar Pradesh government has made Aadhaar card mandatory for students appearing in class 10 and 12 board exams in 2018, Zee News has reported.
According to orders issued by the Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UPMSP), students will need Aadhaar to register for the exams and will also have to carry their Aadhaar cards along with the admit cards to the examination centre.
UPMSP secretary Neena Srivastava has said that the idea is to establish the identity of the student. “With the held of Aadhaar number, we will be able to curb fraudulent registrations and many other malpractices,” said she.
In case the students fail to carry their Aadhaar cards, the exam authority will not allow them to sit for the exams, the Indian Express has reported. However, some other reports suggest that the principal of the educational institution where the exam is being conducted will have the right to take a call in such cases.
This comes just months after the state government made Aadhaar card mandatory for students from class 1 to 8 in government schools.
