UP: Madarsa Teacher Held On Charge Of Raping, Impregnating Minor Who Was His Student

A madarsa teacher has been arrested in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, for allegedly raping and impregnating a minor, reports Indian Express. According to a complaint by the girl’s father, the teacher, Sajid, had been sexually exploiting the girl for around four months. Police, however, said that a medical examination on the victim was yet to be carried out.
The Station House Officer (SHO) of the area in which the crime occurred said that the girl had joined the madarsa only a year ago. Recently, some of her family members had noticed changes in her health and asked her for the reasons, which is when she opened up and told them that the teacher in the madarsa had been sexually abusing her. She also said that he had threatened her with dire consequences in case she resisted his attempts to abuse her.
The father of the victim said that on hearing his daughter’s woes, he confronted Sajid, who threatened him as well. Unable to bear the trauma, he filed a rape complaint with the police.
On Saturday (16 March), the police arrested Sajid and remanded him in judicial custody.
Minority Welfare Officer, Hapur, Suman Gautam, said he would check if the madarsa in question was legal, and affiliated to the Uttar Pradesh Board of Madrasa Education before taking further action.
