Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has launched the CM scholarship scheme on Thursday (7 March) worth over Rs 1 crore, reports Indian Express. The scheme is meant for civil services aspirants in the state.
The chief minister said that many students from poor economic backgrounds wanted to aim for coveted civil services but had to abandon the idea due to high costs of coaching classes and living in big cities.
“This scheme has been conceptualised to provide the much-needed support to those deserving and meritorious students,” Singh said.
The state government has partnered with Delhi-based Alertnative Learning System -IAS Institute (ALS-IAS) for the scheme. The selected students will receive coaching at the institute in Delhi.
While at least 150 aspirants will be provided 100 per cent scholarship under the scheme, 300 others will qualify for other forms of financial assistance based on their performance in a test to be conducted in May by the Institute along with the State Higher Education Department and the district administration.
