Those who are writing UPSC Mains exam this year will breathe a sigh of relief as the five-day break before their language skills and optional subject papers start today.

A lot of aspirants would have been too busy in the last month of the preparation focusing on the general studies subjects. These five days are very important for the students to revise their optional subject efficiently.

The students should start with making a realistic timetable for the five days starting today. The students should ideally divide the paper in the four parts- two parts each of paper I and paper II, and give one day to each part.

The candidates shouldn’t start new material in these five days, at least not before they have finished revising the already studied material. An occasional google search for some current affairs bit is good. For example, while studying International Affairs, a student should read one two articles on latest developments in India’s foreign policy.

The students should revise their notes entirely, preferably with each point on finger-tips. If candidates have already made short notes for revision purposes, they will pay-off at this time.

Finally, a good night’s sleep, light food, light exercises are important. Candidates should have a calm and open mind before they attempt the paper. This will help them write creative answers linking current affairs, which will fetch good marks.
