UPSC Civil Services: PMK Founder Ramadoss Objects To 10 Per Cent Foundation Marks Criteria For Cadre Allotment

A decision by the Centre to remove the ranking in the civil service examination as the sole criteria for allotment of services to the candidates selected by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has evoked protest from the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), The Hindu has reported.
It has been earlier reported that the government has decided that 10 per cent weightage will now be given to the performance of selected candidates in the mandatory combined foundation course for all civil services, including the IAS, IPS and IFS.
However, the PMK founder S Ramadoss has said that this might lead to favouritism by the government. “After the training period, the candidates will be graded and a new merit list will be prepared after adding up the scores. This is wrong and could be used to filter candidates who are not liked,” Ramadoss has alleged.
“They are trying to ensure that those close to IAS officers at the Centre and to the ruling establishment in New Delhi alone get plum posts,” he added.
The idea of a unified foundation course is reportedly not new and was first proposed by the PMO last year with suggestion that candidates selected by the UPSC would be allotted services on the basis of a unified foundation course and not on their rankings in the civil service exam.
