US Drone Strike Eliminates Kerala Man Muhammad Muhasin Who Joined ISIS In Afghanistan

A United States’ drone strike in Afghanistan on 18 July reportedly killed a man from Kerala, who had joined the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in October 2017, reports Business Standard.

Muhammad Muhasin, a resident of Edappal town in Malappuram district in Kerala, died in the American drone strike along with Huzaifa-al-Bakistani, a key commander of the ISIS in the Khorasan province of Afghanistan, sources were cited in the report as saying.

According to the report, Bakistani, a highly trained Pakistani terrorist, had radicalised several Indian youths.

Muhasin’s family in Kerala was informed about the news of his death through a Whatsapp message from an unidentified number from Afghanistan.

"Your brother was seeking martyrdom. Allah has fulfilled his wish as per his aspiration. He was martyred 10 days ago in a drone attack by the American forces,” said the text in the Malayalam language, as o by Business Standard.

As per the report, many people from Kerala, both men and women, have joined ISIS over the last few years, with the majority of them being from the Kannur district of the state. Besides Kannur, people from Kasaragod, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Palakkad, Ernakulam and Thrissur have joined ISIS.

As many as 98 people from the state joined the Islamic State in the recent years, out of which 38 were killed while 60 others are still fighting for the terrorist organisation.
