Elementary school children in the US state of Ohio were asked to sell raffle tickets by an youth football league. The winner of that raffle is all set to win a semi-automatic AM-15 assault rifle as a prize, CBS News reported.

As per the report, a kid aged four to seven who act as Richmond Junior Lions Football league cheerleaders were asked by the team to sell at least 10 raffle tickets as part of its fundraiser. The football team was also selling tickets with a 9 mm Glock pistol as the prize.

While this incident caused outrage among various quarters, the president of the football club claimed that this added publicity actually resulted in increased ticket sales.

The team in total was planning on raising $3,000 via the ticket sales with each ticket priced at $10.

“This is absurd, you're having elementary kids sell your AR-15. Why? I can't see them selling some type of semi-automatic rifle when we have all these mass shootings going on, going door to door”, said the parent of a 7-year-old kid also tasked with selling these tickets.
