US President Donald Trump To Arrive In India On Maiden Visit Next Month, Likely To Sign Limited Trade Deal: Report

United States President Donald Trump is expected to arrive on his maiden visit to India in February as the officials are engaged in finalisation of a dates in the last week of the month, reports Economic Times.
The finalisation of the dates depends on the duration of the US Senate's impeachment trial against President Trump which is expected to begin this week. Meanwhile, it should be noted that US Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Alice Wells, a senior career diplomat is set to visit India this week.
The latest development comes as India and US look to the signing of a limited trade deal. The culmination of a trade deal is also likely to boost President Trump's prospects for re-election in the US Presidential polls scheduled to be held in November.
The two nations are said to have resolved most of the important trade issues, thus paving the way for an ''initial trade package'' wherein the two countries are looking for an equitable market access.
Trump’s visit will also boost the US administration’s support for India’s moves in Jammu and Kashmir amid anti-Delhi rhetoric by left-leaning section of Democrats.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Trump share a strong relationship, a glimpse of which was displayed last year in Houston where the two leaders endorsed each other before a massive Indian diaspora.
Though, majority of Indians in the US have historically and traditionally been Democrat voters, the 'Howdy Modi' event in Texas, may have struck a new political dynamic. Republicans in the US hope to swing Indian votes in their favour in the next presidential elections.
