In a major development, the United States (US)' Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced on Sunday (2 August) that President Donald Trump would soon be officiating measures against "a broad array" of Chinese-owned software which are deemed to pose national security risks, reports Economic Times.

Secretary Pompeo also pressed that Chinese software companies were feeding data directly to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) regime's authorities. While categorically making mention of TikTok and WeChat applications, Secretary Pompeo asserted that there are countless more such Chinese software which are operating in the US.

Emphasising the same, Secretary Pompeo made the assertion that President Trump will be taking action with respect to a broad array of national-security risks that are presented by software connected to the CCP.

This comes after President Trump had on Friday (31 July) said that he plans to ban TikTok from operating in the US. TikTok is owned by Chinese technology behemoth ByteDance Ltd.

It should be noted that TikTok has grown to become one of the most widely used platforms in the US, with its application having been downloaded more than 165 million times. Worldwide, the application has meanwhile been downloaded more than two billion times.
