Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has announced the distribution of free tablets for the students of Class 10 and 12. Dhami made the announcement while hoisting the tricolour in Dehradun on the occasion of the 75th Independence Day.

He has said that Uttarakhand has delivered a strong performance on growth indices. He has added that soon Uttarakhand will be among the most developed states in India.

He said, "Children are our future. We have started Vatsalya Yojana to take care of children who have lost their parents to the Covid pandemic. They will get a monthly allowance of Rs 3,000 under the scheme up to the age of 21. Now we have decided to provide free tablets for the students of class 10 and 12."

Dhami praised hockey player Vandana Kataria, who hails from Uttarakhand, for her performance at the Tokyo Olympics. He added that she had made the state proud. He added: "Enthused by her success, we have decided to frame a new sports policy to support and nourish budding talent in the field of sports.”

Dhami said the state government has made a recommendation to the Centre to confer Narendra Singh Negi -- well known folk singer -- with the Padma award.

The CM also spoke of steps taken by the state government for providing a corruption-free administration to the people of the state, of strengthening the public delivery system through more accountability.
