Uttarakhand’s newly sworn-in Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat has decided to take back all the cases registered against citizens for violating Covid-19 related rules and regulations previously.

The Utttarakhand CM made this call during the first meeting of his newly formed Cabinet, reports ANI.

While the exact number of cases being withdrawn currently is unknown, the state police had arrested over 10,000 people for violating Covid norms amidst the nationwide lockdown in April 2020 itself.

The Uttarakhand government had continued with such strict regulations and introduced a jail term for six months along with fine of Rs 5000 for not wearing a mask in the state in June 2020.

The move by newly appointed Chief Minister is expected to bring relief to many people that were found to be violating Covid norms.

It should be noted that Tirath Singh Rawat, the BJP MP from Garhwal constituency, replaced Trivendra Singh Rawat earlier this week as Chief Minister of the hill state.
