The Trivendra Singh Rawat led Uttarakhand government has terminated the services of over 400 doctors in the state for not reporting for duty.
The doctors were selected by the Public Service Selection Commission and have not reported for duty till date.
This report says that the state government had issued a warning last month to nearly 145 doctors for reporting at the postings, but it did not receive any response from them.
Chief secretary Utpal Kumar Singh has been quoted saying. “These doctors either did not join or did not complete the probation period. The services of such physicians have been terminated. Now we can recruit new doctors in their place. The state government has recently appointed 401 physicians. An ordinance of 467 posts is also being sent to the Selection Commission. The commission has been requested to complete the selection process soon."
Zee News has reported that the state is preparing to recruit 466 new doctors to fill the gap.
On 1 May, Rawat had requested private doctors to resume OPD services. In March the Uttarakhand government had announced that medical students who completed their final year exams will go into internship immediately.
