Uttarakhand, the hill state which was carved out of Uttar Pradesh has turned 18 today (9 November). The state, which came into existence after a long fought battle by the people of Uttarakhand, was formed by the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led BJP government.

On this occasion, Chief Minister of the state Trivendra Singh Rawat extended his greetings to the people of Uttarakhand and said that the key to developing the state is through Sushashan (Good Governance), Amar Ujala has reported.

The chief minister said that a lot has been achieved by the state during these years but there are many things that are needed to be done on his message to the people of the state. Rawat, in his message, paid tributes to the former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The chief minister added that the former PM understood the pain of the people of Uttarakhand and fulfilled their demand.

Rawat, remembering the sacrifices of the people during the movement for statehood, said that without their courage and sacrifice, the dream of carving out a separate hill state would not have been possible.

He called upon the people of the state to take a resolution that every person will give their best contribution to the overall development and prosperity of Uttarakhand and India. This will be the best tribute to the martyrs of the Uttarakhand movement, he said.
