PM Modi at Shri Kedarnath Temple
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday (5 November) visited Shri Kedarnath temple in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand and offered puja at the holy Himalayan shrine.
PM Modi landed at Dehradun's Jollygrant Airport on Friday morning and from then took a helicopter to reach Shri Kedarnath dham. In the temple, he performed Rudrabhishek of Baba Kedar after which the PM performed Aarti of Lord Shiva.
PM Modi also inaugurated Shri Adi Shankaracharya Samadhi and unveiled the 12-feet tall statue of Shri Adi Shankaracharya in the temple town.
The Samadhi has been reconstructed after the destruction in the 2013 floods. The entire reconstruction work has been undertaken under the guidance of the Prime Minister, who has constantly reviewed and monitored the progress of the project.
The said statue has been crafted by sculptors from Mysore. The then Chief Minister (CM) of Uttarakhand Tirath Singh Rawat had praised the sculptors for their formidable job and completing the beautiful statue in a record time.
Born in Kerala in the eighth century, Adi Shankaracharya was an Indian mystic and philosopher who consolidated the doctrines of Advaita Vedanta and made significant contributions towards unifying Hinduism by setting up four mathas across India. He is believed to have taken samadhi at Kedarnath.
