General Manager (GM) of South Central Railway Vinod Kumar Yadav has been appointed the chairman of Railway Board and ex-officio principal secretary to the government of India, Live Mint has reported.
His appointment came after Ashwani Lohani’s superannuation on Monday (31 December). Lohani was appointed the chairman of railway board after AK Mittal resigned last year following derailment of the Kaifiyat express near Auriya in Uttar Pradesh.
Yadav belongs to the 1980 batch of the Indian Railway Services of Electrical Engineers and started his career as an assistant electrical engineer in February 1982. He is a post graduate in business administration (technology management) and has a bachelors degree in electrical engineering.
He holds experience in the fields of project management, general management, industrial policy formulation, foreign collaboration and foreign direct investment, sector specific international technical programmes management and co-ordination of World Bank and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) funding.
During his career, Yadav held several important executive and managerial positions in Indian Railways including additional divisional railway manager of Delhi division, divisional railway manager of Delhi and Lucknow division and chief electrical engineer of planning/traction distribution in Northern Railway.
He has also served in Union Industry Ministry, Indian Railway Construction Company Limited, Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation and Rail Vikas Nigam Limited.
