The fabled and indigenously manufactured semi-high-speed train platform 'Train-18' or Vande Bharat Express has completed 1 lakh kilometers of journey since deployment in February 2019, reports Financial Express.
Despite challenges, not a single run of the train has been cancelled yet. Despite starting operations just a couple of months ago, Vande Bharat Express has set stellar speed and punctuality records.
It was reported that Vande Bharat is now the only train to have achieved average speed of over 100 kmph in the Delhi-Prayagraj sector. It has also set a punctuality record by reaching its destinations on time on virtually all days.
Buoyed by the development, the Indian Railways is all set to introduce more such rakes on different routes.
The Integral Coach Factory (ICF) which manufactured the first Vande Bharat Express has also completed the manufacturing of second such rake which is expected to be delivered to Delhi by the end of May 2019.
The new and second train whose route has not been decided yet has been built with certain modifications and enhancements. For instance, in a bid to protect the train from stone pelting, the glass windows of the train have been coated with special entry-spelling film.
Similarly, more space has been provided in the train's pantry car to accommodate the food for longer distances. Also, the doors in the toilets have been equipped with hooks for hanging coats.
