As the government is moving forward in implementing the Digital India programme, KPMG expects online consumption of videos to be 80 per cent of the total internet consumption by 2019, Mint has reported.

It is also expected that viewership will be dominated by native language users, which are expected to increase to $536 million by 2021. Media company Hotstar has said that the increase in smaller cities (less than 1 million population) is much more than metropolitan cities. The report further states that Indians spend around 50 to 60 per cent of the average time on Hindi content videos, 35 to 43 per cent on native languages and just 5 to 7 per cent of the time on English content.

“The single biggest opportunity on the Indian Internet is ‘Local Language’ and the future certainly lies in winning the regional language audiences,” Umang Bedi, president of Dailyhunt is quoted to have said.

Dailyhunt has reached 100 million monthly active users (MAUs) in May. Google and Facebook have 250 million MAUs and Youtube has 225 million MAUs.

“We are reinventing ourself—from a content-focused app to one focused on the next billion users coming online. And our strategy is to build the largest social content entertainment and news platform in vernacular language, using our patented artificial intelligence, machine learning-based algorithm that is moving to block chain,” Bedi is further quoted to have said. Dailyhunt has a market share of 30 per cent followed by Inshorts with 15 per cent while NewsDog is at third with at 5 per cent.
