Residents of Amdeli village in the Gadchiroli district of Maharashtrahad to wait for 70 years before they could see their homes lit up with electricity and commute in public buses. Surrounded by forests, the remote village lies on the Maharashtra - Telangana border in the Sironcha tehsil, 220 km from the district headquarters with a population of around 200 people, all of whom speak Telugu.
Till a few days back, there was no electricity or transport facility in the village. District guardian minister and Member of the Legislative Assembly for Aheri, Raje Ambrishrao Atram made a provision of Rs 45 lakh in the District Panning Council for the village.
Officials of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co Ltd (MSEDCL) and the Public Works Department (PWD) then started the work and finally electricity connections have been provided to the hamlet. They were inaugurated yesterday (28 September) by the Atram, who arrived at Amdeli in a state transport (ST) bus and performed a puja of the electric distribution point before the village got illuminated. For buses to reach the village, district police personnel had to build a bridge, which was pending.
