Union Minister for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha announced that Arunachal Pradesh would get a new airport at Hollongi near its state capital Itanagar, Indian Express has reported. The foundation stone for the project will be held during December.

This will be the state’s third airport after Tezu and Pasighat. The first commercial flight to the state landed in the Pasighat airport on 22 May this year.

“The proposed 2,200-metre runway at the greenfield airport can handle jet aircraft that can provide direct flights to metro cities,” the union minister said. The airport will be built at the cost of Rs 1,200 crore. The ministry for North East Development will also be contributing Rs 350 crore to the project.

Jayant Sinha said the entire state would be linked with air services in the next ten years. Helicopter, seaplanes and passenger drone services would connect small and big towns in the state, Sinha claimed.
