The Registrar of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has come under the scanner over alleged irregularities of Rs 200 crore. A probe into the matter has been ordered by Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala, Deccan Herald has reported.

As per a complaint made to the Governor by two parents, the Registrar H N Jagannath Reddy has been involved in irregularities since the date of his appointment.

The complaint alleges that Reddy has earned huge assets amounting to Rs 200 crore and continues to invest substantial sums of money in real estate along Bengaluru in the name of his family.

The Governor has now appointed retired District and Sessions Judge D S Shinde to look into the matter as the report submitted by VTU’s Vice-Chancellor was found to be unsatisfactory.

Reddy in his defence has said that, “These are all well-planned allegations planted against me to pull me down from the position. It’s not that easy to misuse power as stated in the complaint. I have followed all the norms in my duty. So I have challenged this in the high court. Since this is in the court of law, I cannot talk more on this”.
