Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu (ToI)

Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu is said to be actively considering action against the unruly opposition members of the Upper House over their conduct in the well on Wednesday (11 August), when the monsoon session of Parliament ended, reports Indian Express.

Naidu is said to have started examining precedents and holding legal consultations with former and serving senior members of the Rajya Sabha secretariat on the next steps for appropriate action.

The Rajya Sabha Chairman is said to have spoken to VK Agnihotri, Secretary General of Rajya Sabha from October 2007 to September 2012, to seek advice on the issue. It should be noted that Naidu has consulted Agnihotri in the past as well.

On Friday (13 August), speaking to media persons, Naidu had said that the opposition and the treasury benches are his two eyes and are equal for him.

He said that a proper vision is possible with two eyes and that he has equal esteem for the two sides. He emphasised this as the reason why he has on many occasions said that it is the collective responsibility of both sides to enable smooth functioning of the House.
