Bengal Congress chief Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has denounced senior leader Anand Sharma for criticizing the party’s alliance with the Indian Secular Front (ISF) led by Muslim cleric Abbas Siddiqui in the upcoming West Bengal elections.

Chowdhury claimed that Sharma is helping the “polarizing agenda of BJP” and he asked the rebel G-23 group to not seek personal spots and refrain from praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Times of India reports.

The Communist Party (Marxist) is leading the alliance with Congress and ISF for the forthcoming polls. “INC has got its full share of seats. Left Front is allocating seats from its share to the newly-formed ISF. Your choice to call the decision of the CPM-led front ‘communal’ is only serving the polarising agenda of BJP,” Chowdhury tweeted.

He also vouched for the people fighting the “venomous communalism” of BJP to support and campaign the Congress in the coming assembly elections in five states. Chowdhury said that these individuals should not try to undermine the party by commenting in line with the saffron party’s agenda.

Earlier, Sharma had said that Congress’ alliance with ISF goes against the core ideology and the soul of Congress. He said that the age-old party cannot be selective in fighting against communalists and also called the Bengal PCC President’s presence and endorsement of the recent rally of the Left front, Congress and the ISF as ‘painful’ and ‘shameful’.
