Arnab Goswami
Republic TV editor in chief Arnab Goswami in the early hours of Thursday (23 April) gave a detailed account of the attack on carried out on him and his wife while they were returning back home from the channel’s studios in Mumbai.
As per Arnab, at around 12.15 AM, when he and his wife were driving back to their residence, his car was joined by two bike borne men who kept driving parallel to him for a while while looking inside his car.
Arnab adds that they suddenly overtook his car and stopped their bike. When he tried to avoid them and drive away, the men allegedly began hitting on his car’s window pane, in an attempt to break it.
As he attempted to escape the attackers then began throwing liquid filled bottles at his car. He ultimately stepped on the gas and swerved his car away from the spot. As per Arnab the duo was then ultimately apprehended by his security personnel who were following behind him.
A video of Arnab’s damaged car was also shared by his media network.
Arnab adds that when he later spoke to his security detail they informed him that the attackers were Youth Congress workers who allegedly confessed that they were given instructions by their higher ups to carry out the attack.
In the video Arnab goes on to hold Sonia Gandhi personally responsible for the attack while asserting that neither he or his network will be cowed down by the attack.
Later in the night Arnab went to the nearby police station to file a complaint. Republic TV has claimed that the Mumbai police has refused to name the Youth Congress attackers in the FIR.
This attack comes amid an intensive campaign by Congress leaders and supporters demanding Arnab’s arrest after he questioned Sonia Gandhi’s reported silence over the brutal lynching of Sadhus in Palghar. A slew of cases have been filed against Arnab in various parts of the country.
