Aircraft carrier Vikrant
Rear Admiral Philipose Pynumootil, who is currently serving as the Flag Officer Naval Aviation and Flag officer Goa Naval Area, made the first landing on aircraft carrier Vikrant earlier today.
The Indian Navy officer landed a Sea King helicopter on the aircraft carrier, which headed out to sea for trials on Wednesday (4 August).
Vikrant, India's first indigenous aircraft carrier, will test the performance of its hull, main propulsion and auxiliary equipment during the trials.
The aircraft carrier has been designed by the Indian Navy's Directorate of Naval Design and built at Cochin Shipyard Limited, a public sector shipyard working under the Ministry of Shipping.
The 40,000-tonne carrier was laid in February 2009 and was floated in December 2011. While the ship was to be inducted into the Indian Navy before 2015, multiple delays have pushed the delivery date.
