Kannur International Airport, signalling its flight readiness, successfully landed a passenger aircraft making it the fourth airport in Kerala to be ready for commercial operations, reported Business Standard.

The airport constructed with an investment of Rs 2292 crore is expected to help Kerala attract more tourists.

"The trial was carried out by the Air India Express aircraft IX 555. It is part of the final procedures for getting clearance to commence commercial operations. KIAL has informed that the trial was successful," Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan confirmed.

Here’s a video of the landing:

Kannur International Airport Limited (KIAL) is behind developing and operating the airport. This airport located at Mattanur, in Kannur District will cater to the need of NRI population and is also said to be near tourist hotspots.

The Kerala government holds KIAL's 32.86 per cent shares while 22.54 per cent shares are with central public sector undertakings, 9.39 per cent are owned by Airport Authority of India, and 32.21 per cent are with others.

The airport built on a public-private partnership model in about 2300 acres of area. The airport is estimated to be operational by this year (2018) and would make Kerala the only state in India to have four international airports.
