With both the houses of the Parliament having given their nod to the resolution on scrapping Article 370 of the Constitution and reorganisation of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), former deputy chief minister (Dy CM) of J&K Nirmal Singh was seen removing the state flag of J&K from his vehicle, reports Indian Express.

Singh, who is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said, “When we were in government we had to fly the state flag with a heavy heart as it was our constitutional compulsion.”

The former Dy CM also added that revocation of special status to J&K was the “70-year-old dream of (BJP ideologue) Shyama Prasad Mookerjee and (Praja Parishad leader) Pt. Prem Nath Dogra”, crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for the same.

With the Article 370 having been scrapped and state of Jammu and Kashmir having been integrated into the rest of the nation as a Union Territory (UT), the relevance of the separate state flag ceased to exist.
