Visibly stressing on safety and ensuring last-mile connectivity to the far-flung areas, the Indian Railways is using automatic track renewal machines to speed up the process during nights, reports Financial Express.

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) zone has deployed the machine in its Dhupguri - Khalaigram block section in West Bengal to quicken the track renewal process at nights. The section has a line capacity of more than 170 per cent, demanding availability of the tracks all the while during day hours.

This is the first time the NFR zone is carrying out maintenance works during very challenging night time. It requires a lot of lighting arrangements to labours to ensure a smooth working. For this, two generators of 63KVA output capacity are used on both sides of the track, every 500 metres.

Lauding the dedication of the employees and labours, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal took to twitter to appreciate their efforts.

According to the press release from NFR Zone, the labours are provided raincoats with heavy rains in the area posing a serious challenge. A dedicated labour force of 120 men, one officer, two Supervisors from the railway side, three Supervisors from the contractor side have been deployed to attain a maximum output, the release adds.
