Alpesh Thakor with Congress President Rahul Gandhi. (Siddharaj Solanki/Hindustan Times)
Congress MLA Alpesh Thakor from the Radhanpur assembly segment in Gujarat has quit his party blaming the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, reports ANI.
"I joined Congress trusting Rahul Gandhi, but unfortunately he did nothing for us. We were insulted again & again. So, I have resigned from the post of Congress MLA," said Thakor after his move.
Alpesh, along with another rebel Congress MLA Dhavalsinh Zala, had voted the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) cadidates -- S Jaishankar and Jugalji Thakor -- in the Rajya Sabha byelections held yesterday.
Soon after its MLAs cross-voted for the BJP candidates, the Congress had filed a written objection with the assembly speaker and the returning officer of the Election Commission.
Evading a question whether he plans to join BJP, Thakor said, "I have resigned to work for the causes of my community. This is not my personal decision. It is a collective decision of my community. Any future decision will be taken by the Thakor Sena."
