A group of cow smugglers, taking cattle illegally from Indian side to Bangladesh at the border in West Bengal targeted BSF Jawans posted there.
Near Border Out Post-Angrail near Bangaon, 64 Bn BSF, 24 Parganas (North), BSF troops intercepted the approximately 25 smugglers and challenged them. In the altercation, they shined a bright light over Constable Anisur Rehman, and threw a country-made bomb which detonated near him.
The Constable fired one round of non-lethal PAG gun towards smugglers. Smugglers lobbed another country made bomb towards him which blasted on his right hand. Jawan sustained grievous injury. Many pellets of bomb also pierced in his body which have affected his lungs, liver and stomach.
Rehman was evacuated to Government Hospital Bangaon and later to Medica Hospital, Kolkata. His right hand was amputated. As per report, one Bangladeshi smuggler had sustained injury but managed to flee away to Bangladesh.
