WhatsApp, the most popular messaging platform in India, recently rolled out a slew of new features to make conversations more lively and private, as reported by Mint. However, they are still in ‘beta’ mode and availability is limited to only a few users. A stable version for wider public use will be released once all the bugs and inconsistencies are tweaked.

One of the most important features released in the ‘beta’ stage is the ability to privately reply to individuals in a group chat. Unlike before, where replies in a group were visible to everyone on it, now users can send private replies and only those to whom the reply is intended, will be able to see it. Also, the ‘reply privately’ feature will allow two individuals to text each other privately in the larger context of the group. Thus, they don’t have to start a new conversation altogether.

WhatsApp has also included the ‘dark mode’ theme where the background is turned darker for use at night. This is a much-needed feature as it is easy on the eyes especially while texting on the bed.

Along with these ‘beta’ features, WhatsApp has finally released ‘stickers’ and ‘GIFs” in the stable version for all the users. Now everyone can download ‘sticker’ packs and search for ‘GIFs’ in the app itself. WhatsApp has also included support for third-party sticker packs. This would allow stickers in local languages across the country.

Whastapp Inc., owned by Facebook Inc., has its largest user base in India with more than 200 million monthly active users. It has also finally announced plans to open its first office in India.
