Maruti Suzuki India’s (MSI) Alto is the best selling passenger vehicle (PV) model in the country for February (2019), selling 24,751 units. The automaker’s other models occupied the next six best-selling slots, reports Press Trust of India (PTI).
According to the latest data published by the industry body Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Maruti sold 4,810 units more Altos this February than in the corresponding period last year. MSI's hatchback Swift was the second best selling model previous month (2019) with 18,224 units.
While Maruti’s premium hatchback Baleno took the third place with 17,944 units, Dzire slipped to the fourth position selling 15,915 units. The recently updated WagonR from MSI’s stable sold 15,661 units to take the fifth position. In the sixth position was the compact MSI’s SUV Vitara Brezza selling 11,613 units.
Hyundai Motor India Ltd's (HMIL) entry into the list was marked by premium hatchback Elite i20 which was the seventh best selling model last month with 11,547 units. Hyundai also occupied the eighth spot with the SUV Creta selling 10,206 units.
Maruti Commands Half The Market
Maruti Suzuki is India’s top car manufacturer, and it commands a market share of 49.6 per cent in the Indian passenger vehicle space. It is trailed by Hyundai India and Mahindra & Mahindra, in the respective order.
In March 2018, India overtook Germany, to become the world’s fourth-largest automobile market. While ahead of nations like Canada and France, the country is lagging behind China, the US and Japan.
