After People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) asked Amul India to switch over to producing vegan milk instead of dairy milk, the Managing Director of GCMMF has responded to PETA.

Amul is an Indian dairy cooperative society managed by the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd (GCMMF).

R S Sodhi, MD of GCMMF since 2010, questioned PETA whether they would give livelihood to 10 crore dairy farmers who are dependent on Amul if the dairy cooperative switches to vegan milk.

He also raised questions on the affordability of lab manufactured factory food made out of chemicals and synthetic vitamins.

“Will they give livelihood to 100 million dairy farmers (70 per cent landless) , who will pay for children's school fees. How many can afford expensive lab manufactured factory food made out of chemicals and synthetic vitamins,” R S Sodhi said in a tweet.

In another tweet, R S Sodhi alleged that PETA wants to market genetically modified Soya of rich MNC at exorbitant prices, which the average lower middle class can't afford.

After facing severe backlash from netizens, PETA said it was just informing Amul of the current trends of vegan consumption and encouraging the cooperative to make intelligent business choices in response to the current trends.
