C A Bhavani Devi is already eyeing success in the 2024 Paris Olympics after bowing out of the quadrennial event in Tokyo in the Round of 32.

Having defeated Tunisian international Ben Azizi in the first round, Devi had created history by becoming the first Indian fencer to win a tie in the Olympics.

However, fourth seeded French player Manon Brunet defeated Bhavani Devi by a margin of 15-7 to put an end to the Indian Olympian’s campaign.

“Every end has a beginning, I will continue my practice and definitely work hard to win a medal at the next Olympics in France and make my country proud. I want to thank each one of you who stood by me,” the athlete expressed on Twitter.

Devi also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur and several others in a heartfelt post on the social media platform.

Regardless of her defeat in the second round, CA Bhavani Devi won her opening game handsomely by defeating the Tunisian Azizi by a margin of 15-3 in merely 6 minutes and 14 seconds.

Praising her for the feat, PM Modi earlier tweeted, "India is very proud of your contributions. You are an inspiration for our citizens."
