The influential Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has put its weight behind the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the Delhi Assembly elections, the voting for which are taking place today (8 February), reports Asian News International (ANI).
CAIT, which has over 15 lakh businessmen from Delhi as its members has said that these businessmen and their employees will be voting in favour of the BJP in the elections. It's secretary-general Praveen Khandelwal underscored, "Delhi Chief Minister (CM) Arvind Kejriwal has not done anything for the traders in the last five years."
Khandelwal added, "We struggled with sealing and Kejriwal kept quiet. We kept fighting the e-commerce and he kept quiet." He also hailed the efforts made by Union Government led by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi for the adjustments made to the master plan to help the traders to stand against the e-commerce.
Khandelwal said, "The government took a very tough stance on our suggestion," and also lauded PM Modi for having conferred pensions to traders and for instituting the National Traders Welfare Board.
Khandelwal expressed confidence that businessmen of Delhi and their families will be voting in the favour of BJP in the elections today.
