With a spike of 22,752 new cases in the last 24 hours, the Covid-19 tally in India has surged to 7,42,417, the Union Health Ministry data revealed on Wednesday (8 July).
According to the Health Ministry, of the total, 2,64,944 are active cases while at least 4,56,831 people have been cured of the disease.
The number of Covid-19 deaths in the country has increased from Tuesday's 20,160 to 20,642, an increase of 482 in the last 24 hours.
Maharashtra, which has emerged as the worst Coronavirus-hit state in the country, has so far recorded 2,17,121 cases, including 9,250 fatalities, and 1,18,558 recoveries. Tamil Nadu followed with 1,18,594 cases.
The Covid-19 tally in Delhi has crossed the 102,000-mark with as many as 1,02,831 cases recorded so far, the third-highest tally in the country. Gujarat has reported the fourth highest tally of 37,550 cases so far.
States with most casualties after Maharashtra are Delhi (3,165), Gujarat (1,977), Tamil Nadu (1,636), Uttar Pradesh (827), West Bengal (804), and Madhya Pradesh (622).
States with more than 10,000 cases are Uttar Pradesh (29,968), Telangana (27,612), Karnataka (26,815), West Bengal (23,837), Rajasthan (21,404), Andhra Pradesh (21,197), Haryana (17,999), Madhya Pradesh (15,627), Bihar (12,570), Assam (12,522) and Odisha (10,097).
Among other states/UTs where Corona cases have surged past 2,000-mark are Jammu and Kashmir (8,931), Punjab (6,749), Kerala (5,894), Chhattisgarh (3,415), Uttarakhand (3,230) and Jharkhand (2,996).
According to the Health Ministry, 5,018 cases are being re-assigned to states.
