With India’s Assistance Worth Nepal Rupees 89.2 Million, Nepal Inaugurates Two Key Infra Projects

Head of Administration Wing of the Embassy of India to Nepal Karun Bansal inaugurated two projects built with India’s grant assistance worth Nepal Rupees 89.2 million on Monday (5 April) as stated by the Embassy of India to Nepal.
The project includes the newly upgraded Fateh Bal Eye Hospital in Nepalgunj which was jointly inaugurated on 4 April along with the Chairman of the Hospital and the newly built Rapti Cold Storage Building in Lamahi Bazar of Lamahi which was inaugurated jointly by the Mayor and other dignitaries of the local Municipality on 5 April.
These projects have been completed under the ‘Nepal-Bharat Development Cooperation’ programme as High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDPs).
The new Fateh Bal Eye Hospital has a general ward, private ward, operation theatre, training hall, doctors quarters, inside road and drainage systems and was built at a cost of NR 46.64 million Indian grant assistance.
The new 3200 MT capacity cold storage facility was built with an overall cost of NR 9.66 crore through joint funding by India and Nepal. India contributed assistance of NR 42.54 million in this project.
The government of India has so far provided grant assistance up to INR 20.99 crores to Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh (NNJS) and has gifted a total of five vehicles to NNJS, including a mobile eye care van for holding eye camps in schools to screen treat eye ailments in children.
HICDPs focus on building infrastructure in the priority sectors of the Government of Nepal such as education, health, drinking water, agriculture, sanitation and public utilities, connectivity such as bridges, capacity building, and vocational training, health camps in rural/remote areas, etc. having a cost estimate of less than NR 5 crore.
These are taken up under Nepal-Bharat Development Partnership programme to support and provide immediate benefits to people of the project area, through local governments.
India has already completed 446 HICDPs in Nepal, and has also funded NR 698 million for the construction of 33.5 km road from Lamahi to Koilabas, connecting East-West highway and India-Nepal border.
