With the highest single-day spike of 29,429 new cases in the last 24 hours, the Covid-19 tally in India has surged to 9,36,181, the Union Health Ministry data revealed on Wednesday (15 July).
According to the Health Ministry, of the total, 3,19,840 are active cases while at least 5,92,032 people have been cured of the disease.
The number of Covid-19 deaths in the country has increased from Friday's 23,727 to 24,309, an increase of 582 in the last 24 hours.
Maharashtra, which has emerged as the worst Coronavirus-hit state in the country, has so far recorded 2,67,665 cases, including 10,695 fatalities, and 1,49,007 recoveries. Tamil Nadu followed with 1,47,324 cases.
The Covid-19 tally in Delhi has crossed the 1.15 lakh-mark with as many as 1,15,346 cases recorded so far, the third-highest tally in the country. Gujarat has reported the fourth highest tally of 43,637 cases.
States with most casualties after Maharashtra are Delhi (3,446), Tamil Nadu (2,099), Gujarat (2,069), Uttar Pradesh (983), West Bengal (980), Karnataka (872) and Madhya Pradesh (673).
States with more than 10,000 cases are Karnataka (44,077), Uttar Pradesh (39,724), Telangana (37,745), Andhra Pradesh (33,019), West Bengal (32,838), Rajasthan (25,571), Haryana (22,628), Bihar (19,284), Madhya Pradesh (19,005), Assam (17,807), Odisha (14,280) and Jammu and Kashmir (11,173).
Among other states/UTs where Corona cases have surged past 2,000-mark Kerala (8,930), Punjab (8,511), Chhattisgarh (4,379), Jharkhand (4,091), Uttarakhand (3,686), Goa (2,753) and Tripura (2,170) .
According to the Health Ministry, 1,524 cases are being re-assigned to states.
