The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is targeting to partially vaccinate almost 80 per cent of the city’s adult population against Covid-19 by the end of July. 50 per cent of the southern city’s 18+ population has already received at least a single jab of their respective vaccines with the public-private partnership (PPP) model expediting the inoculation drive.

Around 70,000-90,000 individuals have been vaccinated daily on an average in Bengaluru in July. The authorities are now aiming to take this number up to around 1,00,000 people, having already met this target thrice in June itself.

BBMP chief commissioner Gaurav Gupta told the Economic Times, “Our daily vaccination is the highest across India, covering one person every second and 1% of the adult population every day. We plan to administer the first dose to another 3,000,000 people by the end of July if the supply remains undisrupted.”

The centres operated by the BBMP administer around 25,000-30,000 doses daily whereas the major remaining chunk is processed through privately run camps. IT companies, corporates, resident welfare associations, the hospital sector and other such establishments have been proactive in terms of conducting camps and paying for the same.

Meanwhile, the BBMP is also carrying out door-to-door surveys to recognize individuals who haven’t taken their Covid-19 vaccine shots and to encourage them to do the same as the authority works towards protecting the city against a third wave of the pandemic in the future.
