Women Entry Not Limited In Sabarimala Alone, Includes Mosques, Parsi Temples Too: CJI Gogoi On Review Petitions

The Supreme Court on Thursday (14 November) referred the review petitions challenging its September 2018 Sabarimala judgement to a larger bench of seven judges.
The decision to refer the matter to a larger bench was taken by a 3-2 majority. While Justices R F Nariman and D Y Chandrachud dissented on the decision, Chief Justice Of India Ranjan Gogoi and Justices Indu Malhotra and A M Khanwilkar were in favour of referring the matter to a larger bench.
CJI Gogoi, who was heading the five-judge bench, reportedly said, “The entry of women into places of worship is not limited to this temple, its is involved in the entry of women into mosques and Parsi temples,” reports ANI.
Earlier in September 2018, the top court opened the gates of the Sabarimala Temple in Kerala dedicated to Lord Ayyappa to the women in the age group of 10-50, saying it was violative of their fundamental rights and constitutional guarantees.
